Three days. Three whole days stuck in this lab and we’re no closer to figuring out what’s in this drug than we were when we got it. Granted, we’ve identified some of the ingredients but there are a ton of unknowns. It’s frustrating. Add in the fact that my mate and I are working nonstop to get this done and help the team, leaving no time for us, is equally as frustrating. I’ll be glad when this is over.

Suddenly, an idea hits me, and I almost hit myself because it’s so obvious. Turning in my chair, I face Pepper and nudge his arm. “Pepper, I think I figured it out.”

He turns and faces me, bleary eyed and says, “Are you sure?”

I nod. “Yeah. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it before.”

“What is it?”

“Well, Lucifer said we could be dealing with a demon, right?”

“Right. What does that have to do with this?”

“Keeping that in mind, the logical explanation for why you can’t match the ingredients to known substances is because they don’t exist in this world. I think they’re using plants native to hell.”

His eyes widen and he launches himself at me, pressing kisses all over my face. “You’re brilliant babe. Fucking brilliant.”

I laugh and wrap my arms around him.

He pulls back and says, “So, now that we know what we might be dealing with, how do we identify the plants?”

I grin and say, “Simple. I can use demon magic on it. It’ll tell me what’s in it and then I’ll give you a list of plants and chemicals that would counteract the effects.”

He hands me the vial we’d been analyzing and says, “Here you go. Work your magic.”

I wink at him and hold my hand over the vial. Using my magic, I do a simple discovery spell and use it to identify the plants and substances used. I see each one in my head briefly before they disappear.

When the spell is complete, I give the vial back to Pepper and say, “We’re in luck. They didn’t use a ton of plants from hell and the ones they used can be counteracted by one plant which can be found in this realm.”

“Which plant?”

“Aconitum.”

His eyes widen. “But, that’s a poisonous plant.”

“Don’t worry love. Only a small amount is needed for the antidote. It’ll probably make everyone affected nauseous for a bit, but it won’t kill them.”

“Okay. How do we get our hands on a plant like that?”

I grin and conjure enough for mass production of an antidote. “Will this be enough?”

He laughs and says, “I do love the way you think. Demon magic really does come in handy.”

“That it does. Let’s get to work on this antidote. The sooner we get it done the sooner we can get it to the team. They’ve waited long enough.”

“I agree love. It shouldn’t take long. Once I mix the antidote all I have to do is put it in that machine over there and it’ll mass produce it. Then we can deliver the antidote and spend some much needed time alone.
